8th July 2019 - We had the pleasure of going to Ariminta's tonight for a great night of fellowship. Our very own Peter Holland was our speaker and he explained what Rural Aid is all about. Buy a bale is part of Rural Aid and our club supported this worthy cause earlier this year. Rural Aid is an organisation helping out our farmers in crisis. They supply hay, fencing, right through to counselling services. Our farmers have been struggling over the last few years and this wonderful initiative is offering support, hope and dignity.
July1st 2019 - The RSL was own venue of choice tonight, where we heard from Trevor Harmes and Denis Kennedy telling us their behind the badge. It is fascinating the variety of members we have, all types of vocations and life experiences. A great night was had and Emilja sang us the most hauntingly beautiful song in Swedish. Miss you already!
June 24th 2019 - Our evening started with three new members being inducted to our club. It was so exciting to welcome these three lovely ladies to Rotary, they are Janina Taylor, Megan Hill and Lisa Montgomery. Then we moved to the main event which was our formal farewell of our exchange student Emilja Fihlman from Finland. When Emilja arrived she was a quiet reserved girl and twelve months later has left a confident, social, independent young woman. Emilja explained what she loved about Australia which was almost everything including Collingwood. The things she did not like were minimal and included vegemite and fly's. We will miss you Emilja but know one day we will see you again. Safe travels.
June 17th 2019 - Shelterbox co-ordinator Steve Crossling again visited our club to tell us about the progress and need for Shelterbox in areas where natural disasters and humanitarian crisis occurs. Our club gladly handed over a cheque for $1000.00 to purchase a Shelterbox for someone in need, somewhere in the world. Thanks Steve for all the work that you do for our district with this great initiative.
June 3rd 2019 - Tonight was a games night, where Fiona McCarthy the games master got the Rotarians to do silly things, with great gusto and the winner takes all. If you think our members are not competitive think again. The prize of the night went to Chris Bender for doing a perfect barrel roll in his suit and tie and did not raise a sweat. President Mariam welcomed our newest member, Denis Kennedy and his wife Jan to the club. Welcome to you both.
May 27th 2019 - Our own Emilja took us through her journey from rock to reef on the safari our Youth Exchange students go on. Emilja told us about the flies at the rock, the surfing on the Gold Coast, the reef at Airlie Beach and the Sydney Harbour bridge. For someone who was afraid of heights we are so proud of our girl, She did a helicopter ride over Uluru and climbed the bridge in Sydney, lots of lasting memories to take home to Finland. Well done Emilja!
May 20th 2019 - We joined a dozen other clubs at Kilmore last night where we visited Children's First Miracle sMiles Retreat. The fundraiser was organised by the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell and featured presentations from the Manager of the Retreat and Noel Baker one of the founding members who help made this amazing facility happen by donating the land it sits on. Humanity in Motion through Rotary.
May 13th 2019 - Beyond Housing provides a vital link between people in crisis and housing availability. There is currently a 10 year wait for public housing, so Kim nd her team rely on trying to place people into caravan parks and motels but for long term solutions they try and place them in private rentals. In Seymour at the moment there is approximately 200 people and family's who are homeless. Our club donates Pinchapoo personal packs to Beyond Housing to give out to people in need in our area
May 6th 2019 - Each year we present Pride of Workmanship awards to people or businesses in our community that show exemplary service and workmanship. The awards for 2019 went to the staff at the Seymour Post Office, represented by manager Dallas Stokes and staff members Olivia Markham and Angelo Pavlidis. It was acknowledged that invariably one can expect a friendly greeting and great service on entering the Post Office. The second award was presented to The Brewers Table owners Rob & Carmen Fifield. The Brewer’s Table provides valuable training for younger people looking to begin a career in hospitality and has come to be the preferred venue for a recent number of community and charity events. Well done to all and thankyou for all that you do.

He concluded his talk by informing us that some upcoming infrastructure projects at Puckapunyal should soon create much needed employment opportunities for Seymour. He announced that the Army museum will be rebuilt just outside the gates at Pucka on defence force land. Something to look forward to as it will make the museum accessible to all.
April 22nd 2019 - Easter Monday
April 15th 2019 - We visited the RSL tonight for a great spread put on by the ladies auxiliary. Our program consisted of Steve Pink's behind the badge talk and for his good wife Leanne. Steve was a teacher for 36 years and has achieved much in the Seymour and district area as an educator and accomplished sportsman. As you might expect, he is a very good communicator. Welcome Steve and Leanne.
April 8th 2019 - Our club had a closed meeting tonight for our club assembly, it gave us a chance to brainstorm and come up with some new ideas. Watch this space!
April 1st 2019 - Emilja our Finnish exchange student presented to us things she has learnt about Australia, some of the things she has learned is that kangaroos are not to be cuddled and flies are pests. Collingwood FC is either loved or hated, and koalas sleep most of the day. She hates vegemite and has observed that no one seemed to know the second verse of the national anthem. Other things noted was that Australians are more laid back than New Zealanders and Europe can fit into Australia more than twice, which makes Australia a vast land.
March 25th 2019 - Our guest speaker for the night was Seymour College Executive College Principal Gail Hardman. So if Rotary International runs numbers of large projects and unites people on a global scale, does this mean we have the big shots and direct all our efforts to overseas programs and far away initiatives? Gail gave an example of how our club impacts and influences our local community. She focused on Rotary's value of "Service Above Self", observing that many Seymour Rotarian's invest considerable amounts of time and effort for the benefit of her students.
18th March 2019 - We were honoured to welcome home Ben Charles our outbound Youth Exchange from his year in Switzerland. Ben quite frankly had a ball, he was enthusiastic about his experiences and embraced his time away as a life changing experience. From the skiing to learning German and travelling around Europe, to making new friends and gaining several new host brothers and sisters, Ben's returned a mature well adjusted young adult with the world at his feet. Ben has also joined ROTEX on his return to give back and will be travelling to Fiji in January to volunteer there for 2 weeks working on a community program. Well done Ben and remember to stay in touch.

4th March 2019 - Nagambie Rowing Club’s Head Coach Sue Andrews is confident, poised and athletic in stature which makes a perfect advertisement for her preferred sport. Rowing, says Sue, essentially requires a keen sense of balance in order for the sculling boats to move quickly through the water. She led us through the development of women’s rowing from the time when it was rude to show an ankle until the slimline uniforms of today.
25th February 2019 - The club went on a vocation visit to the Seymour Police Station, we had a tour around the facility and it was fantastic to see our hardworking police officers at work. The station is much bigger than it looks on the outside and we got to catch up with Jan Williams a past Rotarian, who works there. Thank you Paulette for organising the visit and Sergeant Doyle for giving us the tour it was much appreciated.
18th February 2019 - We had our wrap of conference tonight. Anne Reid started off the night, the Conference theme was ‘Peace Through Service’. Some sobering topics were discussed which highlighted the need for reflection. For instance, proliferation of nuclear weapons and the frightening reality that humanity possess an easy ability to destroy this planet in fairly short order was worth a momentary pause.
This horror story is balanced against Rotary’s surprising role in the founding of the United Nations, it’s enabling international health campaigns around vaccinations, maternal and neo-natal health care in developing nations and some prompt intervention programs in natural emergencies to disrupt child trafficking. Truly big picture stuff with Rotary front and centre.
We also heard from Ruth, Greg, Jane, Ron, and Catriona who gave their personal perspectives of the Conference. Briefly, each spoke of things of relevance which covered topics diverse as minimising the causes for homeless people sleeping rough, Black Saturday bushfires, encouraging and supporting women in leadership, meditation as a path to wellness, vulnerability of women during pregnancy, sanitation in India and dance programs for youngsters.
Impressed yet? You should be.
11th February 2019 - Our guest speaker Stephanie Woodhall's presentation was about her recent trip to Chile, which was enabled due to the Prestigious Lopez-Lochert Scholarship which was awarded to her last year. The cost of this is $2700, our club is thrilled to support them with this endeavor. If anyone can offer support go to Lindy's Facebook page.
